Launched in the difficult context of the market, whether Huawei Mate Xs can compete with the current wave of folding phones?
It's been less than a year since Huawei launched its first foldable phone called the Huawei Mate X, an upgraded version with faster network connectivity and a better camera, called the Mate Xs.
At a glance, it is almost impossible to say that the Mate Xs is different from the Mate X, although there have been some notable design changes in creating a thinner device. The first is the addition of a polymer layer to protect the plastic OLED panel.
The Huawei Mate Xs screen has a 2-layer polymer structure, connected by a transparent glue, accompanied by a protective sticker that the manufacturer advises not to remove to ensure the screen's durability.
Like Mate X, Mate Xs is a 6.6-inch phone (19.5: 9 aspect ratio, 2,480 x 1,148 pixels resolution), opening up to become an 8-inch tablet. When opened, the Mate XS is only 5.4 mm thick at the thinnest part, while the protruding strip holds the camera to 11 mm thick.
The Mate Xs is basically a remake of the Mate X model that debuted last year. Inside the Mate Xs is Huawei's most advanced Kirin 990 chip, accompanied by 5G network technology with speed and bandwidth that is superior to 4G. It has 8 GB RAM, 512 GB internal memory to comfortably store applications, music, movies.
The battery and charging capacity of the Mate Xs are also upgraded compared to the Mate X. Specifically, the device has two batteries to fit the folding design, a total capacity of 4,500 mAh, can charge up to 85% in just 30 minutes thanks to 55W SuperCharge charger included.
It also has a new cooling system called "Flying Fish Fin", which dissipates heat on both sides of the phone to keep the two batteries from overheating.
Mate Xs camera cluster inherits from the previous Mate series with RYYB sensor, 40 MP main camera (f / 1.8), equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) to help take beautiful pictures even in low light conditions. Besides the 8 MP telephoto camera (f / 2.4) supports 3x and 30x optical zoom, ultra-wide angle camera 16 MP (f / 2.2) and 3D depth sensor.
The Huawei Mate XS is expected to cost $ 2,704, higher than the Galaxy Fold or Galaxy Z Flip. Huawei is expected to launch the product on March 5 in some countries outside of China, and of course there will be no US market.
The folding ability of Huawei Mate Xs is considered quite interesting, but we have to wait more to know if Mate XS is enough to attract users.
